The Emmys Have Been Announced And I Have Lots Of Thoughts The 2018 Emmys nominations have arrived.  Its time to take a look at the nominees and the categories and the Emmys at large.  As I talk about various shows and topics I want to make a few things clear.  First, THERE ARE NO SNUBS.  While there are certainly shows and/or writers and actors and directors I wish would have been recognized that weren't, they aren't snubs.  There is more TV shows than there is time to watch which means there are a lot of shows that will fail to get recognized that are deserving.  Its tough but that's just how it is these days.  Second, no one who got nominated is not worthy.  The sentiment above applies again.  There is a ton of shows to sort your way through.  More than is possible to watch or nominate.  Just because I would trade out a nominee for something else doesn't make them unworthy.  Put simply, too much is worthy.  Now that I'v...

Won't You Be My Neighbor The story of a man who believed that love was the answer to everything. I just last night watched the documentary about Fred Rogers.  It was a stunning piece film making.  It wasn't that in terms of its ability to create a beautiful shot or to make you realize something deeper than what was originally intended.  No, it is the story of a man whose goal was simple from the start.   And yet in these trying times I can't believe that we have become less in need of the message of Mr. Rogers and his neighborhood.   In this Documentary we are given a message.  And that message is to love those around us unconditionally.  I know this is hard to do but I believe that in these times this may be the most profound message.   Won't You Be My Neighbor lacks snark or cynicism or crassness.  It is the story of a man who believed that love could conquer all.  And this is not romantic love.  It is ...

Five Movies and TV Shows From The First Half Of The Year That Everyone Should See The first half of the year has come and gone.  So I figured it was time to make my first ever list.  Let me explain what the above title means exactly.  This is not a "best of" list.  While I would put much of what will be talked about on a "best of the first half" list not all would necessarily go there.  These are literally what the title says.  Movies and TV shows that whether they are mainstream or not, critical darlings or not I think I would tell every single person I know that they should see them no matter their taste.  If it doesn't go without saying I am only including things I have seen.  Also, I stayed away from tentpoles.  Enough people go see Marvel movies and Star Wars movies that I don't feel the need to pitch them here(sorry Black Panther and Incredibles 2.  You would make a best of list).  On the TV side of things this list is only ...
